With the results of the election this past week, many of us in the LGBTQ community are feeling anxious, frightened, angry, sad, despondent, or a mix of these emotions – and more. While the sad truth is that LGBTQ history is filled with injustice and hardships, inseparable from that history is also a long-standing history of courage, resilience, and audacity that has pushed our community forward.
As a 501(c)(3), LanSINGout cannot endorse or oppose any particular candidate or party. But we certainly can express our point of view. As a member of the LGBTQ movement, it is our solemn duty to represent our members and the members of the LGBTQ community at large. Feelings of safety and security may not be present in our hearts and minds right now but we are fortunate to have each other at this moment.
First and foremost, we are committed to be there for each other and take care of ourselves. As the saying goes, “Be the change you want to see in the world”. And so, with every rehearsal, performance, and event we will create a testament to our community and our commitment to the LGBTQ movement. To keep us all united and working towards a better future, we all need to ensure that “We Sing On”.
